What is Weyfarers?

We are one of just a handful of recreational and touring rowing clubs in the UK, formed for and by people who think rowing should be FUN!

  • No time to train 8 days a week?
  • Love rowing, but want to have a life as well?
  • Never tried rowing, but want to have a go?

Then maybe YOU should try recreational rowing!!

Don't get us wrong - we don't just paddle around. We aim to improve our technique and get fit, just like our more competitive friends. But our horizons are wider.....

10th Anniversary Party

Yes, Weyfarers is 10 years old! To celebrate this momentous occasion, we are organising a dinenr and dance at the Hilton, Cobham, on Saturday 20th November. More details here in due course, but you can pre-book a ticket by emailing us.

Touring news

This year's British Rowing Tour is now fully subscribed. The dates are Thursday 2nd - Sunday 5th September and the route is the River Trent and Fossdyke Navigation from Nottingham to Lincoln via Newark.

We had a great time rowing the River Wey from Guildford to Weybridge on 21st/22nd August, with the City Barge Company from London, rowing in a traditional Shallop. Here are some photos.

Next excursion - Maidenhead to Weybridge this Saturday, 28th August.

Beginners rowing course

Our last beginners course for 2010 has finished. See our courses page for details. Contact us if you would like to be notified of future courses. We can occasionally fit in new people on our regular weekend sesssions.

Sunday Lunch Time Socials

Greg hosts a Sunday lunch time social on the first Sunday of every months. The next one is on 8th August. Come and have a few drinks with your friends and enjoy the free nibbles (including Greg's home made smoked trout pate).

International Racing !

On Sunday 14th February, two Weyfarers crews took part in the Handicap d'Hiver organised by Royal Sport Nautique de Bruxelles. This is a rather unusual Head Race (long distance time trial), over 5 km, with the slowest boats starting first and the fastest at the back, the aim being that they should all finish together. Our crews came 32nd and 35th overall, which is not bad considering that most of the rowers only started last year. Details and photographs here.

Outing Times

Weekend sessions are on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and Sundays at 10 a.m. all the year round.

The Ladies' Morning Group meets on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. All levels of experience catered for, including beginners. Coaching will be provided by Christy Job, the ARA Club and Community Coach for Thames region, with support from experienced club members. Contact Greg Jones for more details.

The Gentlemen's Afternoon Group meets on Fridays at 2 a.m. Experienced rowers only.

During the summer there will be outings every evening - see the WEYFARERS ROW REQUEST FORM for details

Both the Ladies' and Gentlemen's groups are now open to men and women!

Hide A'Wey

The Weyfarers summerhouse is in need of a facelift. We will be organising a painting party in the next few weeks, but in the meantime we could do with some help with cleaning. We also need curtains, a new fridge, kettle and bunk beds, so if you can donate any of these items they will be gratefully received.
